In my opinion firefly was just a crap version of cowboy bebop, seriously if anyone out there could give me one reason it wasnt a facepalm of a show tell me...

Good topic...

However just to make you a little unstable on your soapbox please consider the below :

1) You are talking about two shows of different genres
2) Whom are you to criticize the genius of Josh Whedon
3) This was a show which at the time heavily supported by it's actors... they pushed Josh to write more!

Bring on the second movie guys! Too many years in the waiting!

May the battle commence !

ZOMG!!!! That's simply TROLLING at it's most obvious!! :second:

Well done to both of you for getting into the spirit of things...

oh, and you're also both COMPLETELY WRONG.
I'm with Marty on this.

Firefly was genius, as was Serenity.

Cowboy Bebop was also excellent (with I might add, a KICK ASS soundtrack!) but while there MAY BE similarities between the two shows (space cowboy wise), they still stand apart from one another due to plotlines and characters quite well.

pity about the actors in it rusty, same characters they always play in movies, no depth, just change the scenery and the names and its the same thing. Look at the acting in Serenity and watch her in terminator.. same boring crap. The chick is a hotty though.

and wtf is with the name summer glue, clearly her parents hated her and themselves.

True her name makes me think of GLUE, but she is awesomely hot!

As for the acting - Summer's acting is a bit - blah, but then look at the roles. There's not really a lot of room in either one for character development...

It would be good to see her doing something that ISN'T emotionless crazy chick/robot.

As for the other acting, I liked Nathan Fillion - thought he did a great job! And Jewel (who is also an extremely beautiful woman) did really well too. and she played a completely different character in SG:A to the one in Firefly!

I could go on - but I AM supposed to be working at the moment, so I'll leave it here for now :p

Oh damn I'm sorry did Firefly have a movie?
oh wait yeah i remember that piece of garbage that's classified as sci-fi bah! i say BAH!
Evil spiteful creators nowadays and the 'genius' that it seems some people like to label them with... give me a damn good movie with a real bloody plot don't give me gutless 'cult' wonders like firefly (there is a reason it was canceled) and claim there all that and more, when there are much better and more 'cult' series and movies out there shit man give me a bloody example why this pants less, and pointless movie/series is better then say.... oh i dunno Star-Trek, Farscape, and bloody Dr. Who shit man A SERIES SHOULD HAVE DECENT HOMUR AND HOW THE F IS LOSING YOUR PANTS IN AN EPISODE FUNNY!

Better than StarTrek - Yes.

Why? Well for a start, it's certainly a tad more realistic. No universal translators for a start, no people with prosthetic foreheads pretending to be aliens...

GRITTY REALISM.... It's one of the reasons I preferred Babylon 5 over Deep Space 9. Aside from the fact that B5 had Ivanova that is...

The Trek Universe, nice as it is, is TOO nice, TOO sanitised. It's one of the things I'm hoping they rectify with the reboot of the genre. I don't want to see engine rooms that are so spotless that Mr Sheen would weep in dispair about being out of a job as cleaner and you could not only eat off the floor, but perform brain surgery. And no one was really struggling to get by, everyone had everything they needed... and people were so DEFINED. THAT person is GOOD, THAT person is EVIL...

B5 had a bit ore of a decent backstory that was BELIEVABLE. And it was gritty damnit - there were the lurkers, the homeless disenfranchised people, there were grunge levels, maintenance people who got their hands dirty, cargo handlers who went on strike - it felt more REAL.

....and it had Ivanova....

Firefly had the same sort of realism. People struggled to get by, people weren't necessarily good or bad, but they were a mix of both and sometimes good people did bad things and you know - thats ok, coz thats life.

Things broke - without needing to be in raging battles and screaming "KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNN!!!!!" and took REAL time to be fixed with real tools and equipment, instead of having to invent a phased coupler to over-ride the dylithium matrix and force a purge of the effected particles out via the warp nacelles sometime in the next 5 minutes just in time to prevent the ship exploding.

Oh and for the record - losing your pants isn't funny. Someone else losing THEIRS on the otherhand is frakkin' hilarious! :thefinger:

yeah um... I'm pretty sure the whole universal translator thing in firefly was the fact that... hmm i dunno maybe the damn fact they one spoke like one or two f'n languages maybeh? geeze man I'm pretty sure that's laziness on the writers/creators behalf while star-trek might have had the fix it all shit IE. universal translator ect. but fk me dead man least they had a reasonable plot and direction to move in... i mean ffs man damn lost my concentration was fapping to R34 of 7 of nine....... fk it firefly sucks nuts TAKE IT LIKE A MAN!

Heh - come back when you can form a cohesive arguement!

Firefly had multiple languages in it, StarTrek had multiple languages, but also the cheat Univeral Translator (henceforth called a 'UT'). Would have been far more realistic to have a linguist who actually had to work for a living...

Mind you - saying that, at least StarTrek's UT was a better solution than StarGate's.

I liked StarGate, but that was the one thing they got RIGHT in the original movie (actually had to translate what they were saying to talk to them), and absolutely ballsed up in the subsequent series.

"But EVERYONE speaks english don't they? Despite having come from a far off distant world settled by vikings/egyptians/mayans/american indians/greeks/etc..."

Pffttt!
