Thanks to Ducky for pointing me in the direction of this:
In an article on PrWeb.com (http://www.prweb.com/releases/2009/12/prweb3369394.htm), we can see that the Australian Government has again struck another blow for fascism and tyranny by forcing the removal of the newly registered stephenconroy.com.au website. :tape2:
The .com.au domain was removed with only 3hrs notice by the auDA, Australia's domain name regulatory body, presumably after a complaint from Senator Conroy's office, though this has not been confirmed.
Acting with only 3hrs notice is almost unprecidented. Given the site is
"...a satirical platform on which to air grievances and promote debate about the Australian governments proposed mandatory Internet filtering scheme...", the content is not illegal - just contrary to most of the opinions being voiced by the Australian Government.
Which begs the questions - on what grounds was it removed, and why was it removed so fast. The decision smacks of blatant political censorship and collusion between the auDA and the office of Senator Conroy to stifle healthy open debate and discussion of political decisions in Australia, especially in this case, relating to those made by Senator Conroy.
auDA's notice stated that the site was not elligible for the name, an arguement refuted by the site owners who replied that, given the site was established as part of a democratic protest against Senator Conroy it gave them a direct connection to the name.
Fortunately the site remains active on stephen-conroy.com (http://www.stephen-conroy.com/) which, being a US/international domain, the auDA has no authority over, and personally I hope it makes Senator Conroy and his staff 'suffer in their jocks'.
I highly recommend this site to anyone interested in maintaining a free and open discussion on Content Filtering and Internet Censorship in Australia.
