• SA Attorney-General living in fear...of video gamers!!

Everyone's favorite Attorney-General, Michael Atkinson, has today decried how he and his family are living in fear of the dreaded VIDEO GAMER....

In an article on news.com.au, A-G Atkinson today claimed he is more frightened of people who play video games than motorcycle gangs.

    .....right......

Because the motorcycle gangs obviously only go out and kill each other, not weasel minded idiots like A-G Atkinson.

But LOOK OUT MICHAEL!!! Gamers are EVERYWHERE?!?! Why, even your OWN CHILDREN might...no no, what am I saying... with YOUR views on video games, your children are either chained up in the basement (and we all know what happens in South Australian basements, don't we!) or sent off to a nunnery or military school depending on the sex of the child!

Mind you, this whole fear campaign of his is due to a note left under his door a YEAR AGO. Hell it was probably written by a neighbor's kid who just wanted to be able to play the latest game from the US, but who's mother had lunch with Mrs Atkinson and decided to burn his PS3 to stop Satan from corrupting her child!

Oh, and to make things funnier, A-G Atkinson has also claimed that he's now the target of a SMEAR campaign. Well DUH... You go wading into a political issue, infringing on peoples civil liberties and expect NOT to be the target of a smear campaign?? Clueless much???

But - lets also take a moment out of our ranting here to applaud the sensationalistic approach of the journalist reporting this story... They added a short two sentence coda below the hype about threats and smear campaigns...

He [A-G Atkinson] acknowledged the threats were not indicative of everyone who supported an adult rating.

"I accept that most of those lobbying for an R18+ category for games have not done these things and do not condone them." Mr Atkinson said.
Then we have a sensible response...

... Mr Atkinson's comments seemed like an attempt to tar the reputation of gamers.

"It's just ridiculous to me. It's a very emotive statement to say that he's more afraid of gamers than he is of bikies," said Gametraders managing director Mark Langford.
"I really wonder whether he truly believes all gamers are potentially dangerous and threatening. I think it's pretty emotive and I don't think it's based on any evidence. It's just a line, basically."
So who's on a smear campaign now A-G Atkinson? Hmm???

And finally - I have to quote from one of news.com.au's readers comments. It's absolute GOLD...

If find it absolutely appropriate that the states attorney General is more afraid of Video Gamers than he is of this states absolutely notorious and (allegedly) highly criminalised Motorcycle gangs. After all the video gamers are far more afraid of how effective Mr Atkinson could be at curtailing their activities, than the bikers are afraid of Mr Atkinson's futile attempts ( so far) at drafting legislation that could get past court challenges. At least when dealing with people still involved in playing in childish fantasy worlds, myr Atkinson is on a level playing field. The bikers are however able to employ highly competent legal counsel, so that is a contest of an entirely different complexion.
